Bon Appetit!, the Opera

Julia, the original

The Atlanta Opera is presenting a comic operetta based on episodes of The French Chef, originally staged in 1989 with Jean Stapleton. Apparently Julia Child loved it. Who knew?

Atlanta arts writer Pierre Ruhe has an interview with the creators, including this inspiration: “Julia had a very musical delivery, and I let that inform how I wrote the music. These are exactly her words. Julia didn’t realize she’s a poet.”

Woo! ATL represent! Didn’t get to go, though I love both opera and Cook’s Warehouse… maybe it will be reprised for those of us who couldn’t make it.
